ENSTAR Natural Gas Company is undergoing two different changes, one of which will kick in January 1.
John Sims with ENSTAR detailed how the company will go back to annual Gas Cost Adjustments versus quarterly.
Sims: “So starting January 1st we will go to a 6 month transition period where we will have one gas cost adjustment from January to June 30th and then July 1st for a full year we will have one gas cost for that entire year.”
Sims said they had switched to quarterly to get a better picture of fluctuations due to winter contracts but customers did not like unpredictable changes and ENSTAR agreed to go back to the way it was in 2010.
The company also applied for a base rate adjustment in September which incrementally raises rates in two steps if approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.
One step began in November, raising the base charge from $0.1101 per CCF to $0.1142 per CCF. The second step will kick in sometime during mid-2015 and raise the rate to $0.1336 per CCF.
