Nathan Erfurth, a former Soldotna High School teacher and former Kenai Peninsula Education Association president, was arraigned July 11th at the Kenai Courthouse. Erfurth pleaded not guilty to all counts of sexual abuse of a minor, exploitation of a minor, and possession of child pornography.
Following last week’s grand jury indictment, Erfurth faced 74 total charges, though some of those were stricken by Judge Jason Gist, and others remain pending in Alaska’s state court reporting system online. One new indictment was added Tuesday, July 5th at Erfurth’s arraignment, bringing the current total charges to 61.
A former student of Erfurth’s filed a report in April alleging he “sexually assaulted” her multiple times, and in several locations including her home, his home, and Soldotna High School, over a period of multiple years. On May 30th local authorities took Erfurth into custody on two charges of sexual abuse of a minor. At least 10 of the charges stem from incidents which allegedly occurred on Soldotna High School property. All of the alleged incidents took place between September 2017 and September 2018.
Erfurth was released on house arrest after he posted bail on June 8th.
Erfurth is scheduled to appear in court again on August 16 for an omnibus hearing; his trial will begin the week of September 5th in Kenai.
