Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education will discuss and possibly take action on sports and extra-curricular activities at the scheduled Fairbanks Borough School District meeting on Monday, August 10.

Any actions by the Fairbanks board will have a direct impact on Kenai Peninsula athletics; for example, SoHi and Kenai football programs are scheduled to play in Fairbanks the week of August 28 and 29.

According to Bruce Cech, 820 Sports in Fairbanks, some area parents have voiced concerns over playing sports while schools are operating remotely.

The Fairbanks North Star Borough announced July 28th at Fairbanks schools will start with fully-remote learning on August 20.  The Board voted July 27th to re-assess school readiness and safety every two weeks.  Superintendent Karen Gaborik asked the board to consider starting fully remote on August 20, with a look at moving students onto the classroom after Labor Day.

Updates will be made available when details are released by the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
