The high school football season moved into week four of the regular season with a non-divisional victory for Kenai, a Greatland Conference showdown loss for Nikiski, and a bye weekend for Soldotna.

Kenai 44 – vs Palmer 20

The Kenai Kardinals, following a decisive Northern Lights Conference victory over Kodiak in week three, again moved out of division for a Friday night home contest against Large School opponent Palmer High.

The Kardinals  overpowered Palmer for a 44-20 victory, lead by a strong ground game which amassed 370 rushing yards and included three rushing touchdowns each for Kyle Foree and Chase Logan.  The Kardinals added an interception return by Jace Baker of 51 yards for a touchdown and a Baker 21-yard touchdown pass to Chase Gillies.  The Kards added a 30-yard field goal by Marshall Vest.

The Kardinals lead 23-20 in the third quarter; then reeled-off 21 unanswered points.

Kenai moves to 2-2 on the season and will face another Large School opponent Wasilla next week.

Nikiski 34 – Eielson 52

The Nikisk Bulldogs returned home for a Greatland Conference showdown against the Eielson Ravens on Saturday at Nikiski High, dropping their first game of the season to the Ravens 52-34.

The Bulldogs and Ravens traded blows through the first half before Eielson’s offense staked the Ravens to an 18-point lead in the third quarter.  Nikiski closed to within six, only to allow two Eielson touchdowns to close the game’s scoring.

Eielson’s Anthony Griffith rushed for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns setting a new Alaska state record for single game rushing yardage with 516 yards.  Griffith averaged over 12 yards per carry, including touchdown runs of 36, 12, 8, 6, 63, 93, 77, and 36 yards.

Nikiski scored touchdowns by Dylan Broussard on a 47-yard pass completion; Christian Riddall on one and five yard runs; Broussard on an 18-yard run and Hunter Holloway on a 46-yard pass reception from Cade Anderson.
