The new captain of Alaska State Troopers’ Soldotna Post may just be getting his feet wet, but he’s no stranger to the area.
AST Capt. Hughes: “I previously worked here in Soldotna as a Trooper back from 1990 to 1997.”
60-year-old Maurice “Mo” Hughes stepped into the role as Soldotna’s Captain on October 24, picking up where prior Captain Andy Greenstreet left off when he was promoted to statewide Operational Commander.
Captain Hughes began his life in Alaska when he arrived in Kodiak as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, and has served with the Alaska State Troopers for 26 years.
He says he’s still easing into his role here while keeping a close eye on important issues like the state’s budget and its effect on the Alaska State Troopers.
AST Capt. Hughes: “I think from my perspective here on the peninsula now, from myself and the other supervisors who work here, we’re constantly reevaluating how we do business, how we can do it more efficiently and effectively so that we can use our resources to their maximum ability.”
Hughes says he’s not always working though; he is excited to once again be living in close proximity to great fishing and hunting, two of his favorite hobbies.
