A motor vehicle collision alerted authorities on Thursday evening at 7:35 p.m. at mile 71 of the Seward Highway, which is located near the Seward Highway Falls in Turnagain Pass. Alaska State Troopers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford SUV was parked in the pullout, and an occupant, 46-year-old Oregon resident, William Foss, had exited the vehicle and was standing outside of it. A Dodge minivan was traveling southbound and left the lane colliding with the parked Ford SUV and Foss.
Foss was declared deceased at the scene.
Two other occupants of the Ford SUV, an adult female, and a juvenile male, were taken to an Anchorage area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the minivan was taken to a Seward area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a passenger was medevaced to an Anchorage area hospital for treatment.
Foss’s remains were brought to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation into the collision remains open, no citations have been issued or arrests made at this time, according to the online trooper dispatch.
Next of kin have been notified.
