FDA Warns Against Using Ivermectin For COVID-19 Treatment; Mayor Pierce Clarifies Prior Comments

The Food and Drug Administration is warning people to not use a parasite medication as a home-remedy for the coronavirus. The FDA posted an article online explaining why ivermectin shouldn’t be used to treat COVID-19. The agency explained that even though it can be prescribed to humans, it is only used to treat very specific symptoms. Also, people can’t take high doses of the drug. Ivermectin over the counter is used to de-worm horses and other animals. The FDA warning comes amid a spike in hospitalizations of people using it as a home-remedy.

Meanwhile, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce defended the use of the drug as a means for treating COVID-19. He called into KSRM’s Sound Off with host Duane Bannock Wednesday saying:

When I say the use of ivermectin, I’m using the human dose of ivermectin. Here’s my point, there’s doctors out there on the far left, I will call those the vaccinators. They want to promote the vaccine. Okay, I get it. They’re indoctrinated into that world and that’s where they’re comfortable with being and they don’t want to compromise their license or step out of the box. They’ll take the orders to the order takers, and they are going to follow the rules. You’ve got the doctors in the middle that are kind of in between the two. They’re willing to look at the science and I’ve heard science referenced on here a number of times. Whose science are you willing to look at? Look at all of the science. Look at the folks that are on the far left saying, ‘let’s vaccinate everybody and do it now’ and then look at those that are in the middle that haven’t taken the vaccine and look at the far right folks that are saying ‘wait, there is countries, there is examples of where a human dose of ivermectin that’s given to you weekly, minimizes, reduces and eliminates, in many cases, you could argue, the COVID event.’”

Pierce promotes and advocates for the expansion of medicinal options for COVID-19 patients citing the fact that Americans want to eliminate the coronavirus pandemic and told Alaskans of the Kenai Peninsula to do your own research.

Pierce said:

It’s really kind of gotten to the core of my heart is that we’re not willing to look outside of these little boxes we’ve put ourselves in. That’s what I’m arguing about is I may be wrong, but I may be right. Everybody wants to be right, right? I’m willing to be wrong in order to be right. I’m think history will prove whether we were all right or wrong. We don’t have enough time to wait on history if you’re sick with this. There’s 600,000 folks that have died that I don’t believe had to have died.”

Meanwhile, the Alaska Public Health Alert Network reports that there’s a rapid increase in ivermectin prescriptions and reports of severe illness associated with the use of products containing ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19.
