Larry Persily with the Federal Office for Alaska Gas Line Project presented to the joint Kenai Soldotna Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday.
During his presentation he called on the Kenai Peninsula communities to remain involved in the LNG Process, saying that part of the Environmental Review will not only address stream, air, and soil qualities but also communities along the path.
Persily: “Particularly Nikiski with the liquefaction plant, school population, road traffic, housing, public safety, public revenues to the borough to pay for all that and I’ve talked to mayor Navarre and other mayors along the route and they’re aware that this is something that they and their staffs will have to follow. So when more of the project information comes in, hopefully we get to that point, that they will have to revue it, they will want to revue it and say hey we agree with this, with disagree with this, you missed this point, to protect the community’s interest. Not that the project is bad but how are you going to accommodate the workers, how are you going to accommodate the traffic and thats where local is going to be key because a lot of federal officials, we don’t live in Kenai.”
Persily said that watching, reading, and understanding reports that are filed will be integral to staying a part of the process.
