Although President Barack Obama has included $1 million dollars in the national budget for the federal gas offices, the center will still close.

As we previously reported, the Office of Federal Coordinator of Alaska Natural Gas Projects announced in December it was set to close due to lack of funding from Congress.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski responded yesterday to Obama’s budget plan by saying that this proposed budget completely goes against the Budget Control Act which agreed to set spending caps.

Matthew Felling with Murkowski’s office…

Felling: “His budget blows through the caps to the tune of $74 billion over what we agreed the limits were going to be.”

Current federal coordinator Larry Persily said he plans to resign after the offices close, therefore if the agency is restored with the budget request after October, a new coordinator will step in.
