Federal Grants Headed To Alaska Airports, Including Kenai Municipal Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that they are awarding several federal grants to airports in Alaska. The announcement on Tuesday comes as part of a $1.2 billion pledge of grants to 405 airports in 50 states and six U.S. territories.

 

Kenai Municipal Airport will be receiving a little over $1 million to buy land for approaches, as well as to build, repair, or expand a sand and chemical storage building.

 

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao: “This $1.2 billion federal investment will improve our nation’s airport infrastructure, enhance safety, and strengthen growth in local communities, which is especially important as the economy recovers from COVID-19.”

 

This series of grants follows a July round of grants that awarded $273 million to airports throughout the nation. That included close to $6.5 million to Homer Airport, set for construction and rehabilitation projects, including expansion of a snow removal equipment building.
