Fire and Arson Investigation Conference to Light a Nikiski Home on Fire

The Alaska Association of Fire and Arson Investigators has congregated in Kenai this week for the annual conference to learn the latest investigation techniques.

 

Kenai Fire Marshal Tommy Carver says some of the time will be spent in the classroom at Beacon, but the conference was donated a Nikiski home for the purpose of setting it on fire.

Carver: “ConocoPhillips donated a house that they had purchased for their future businesses going on out in Nikiski, they donated a house to us that they bought. We get to go out there and set some fires in the house that our attendees will then go investigate.”

 

Professionals will set approximately five fires at different times in the structure, which the investigators will then be able to practice evidence photography and collection, as well as scene reconstruction.

 

Carver says the public probably won’t notice any smoke in the area because of the remote location of the home.

 

Approximately 25-30 investigators from around Alaska will be here for the week.
