PeaceHealth Ketchikan made history this month when the medical center became the first and only hospital and long-term care unit to achieve Pathway to Excellence designation in Alaska and in the PeaceHealth system.
Pathway to Excellence is a designation awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to healthcare organizations that prove their commitment to creating a positive practice environment for nurses. Only 190 hospital organizations currently hold the designation.
Charles Perkins of the American Nurses Credentialing Center held a virtual meeting during which he revealed the designation being granted to a team from PeaceHealth Ketchikan: “As you meet all the Pathway to Excellence criteria, and as your nursing staff has overwhelmingly validated the same, on behalf of the commission for Pathway to Excellence, the American Nursing Credentialing Center, I’m thrilled to congratulate you and your RNs, and all interdisciplinary partners of PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center for achieving Pathway to Excellence designation and for being the first Pathway to Excellence hospital in Alaska. Congratulations, you guys!”
The PeaceHealth Ketchikan staff celebrated in the background, with some even being in-tears.
The Pathway to Excellence is a four-year designation that applies to the 177 nurses in the medical center, long-term care unit, and the medical group.
