After being delayed just five days from the original June 6 roundabout opening, Soldotna may see the use of it’s first roundabout tomorrow, June 11.
Soldotna Project Manager Lee Frey said they had planned on painting the road earlier this morning.
Frey: “We were slightly delayed with the weather this morning, had a little bit of rain on the roundabouts, waiting for that to dry out and had a little bit more this afternoon that delayed us a little bit more so right now we have surveyors out there and we’re going to start striping this afternoon and hopefully we’ll have it open sometime this evening barring anymore weather delays.”
Frey also spoke about the next phase of the project.
Frey: “Once we open up the roundabout area, the Wilson, Binkley intersection, we’ll be moving forward from Riverview Ave. to just south of Redoubt is the next area, its currently under construction and we’ll just be having that area closed down and traffic above and below will still be allowed to freely move so we’ll be doing a lot of underground work and getting some things prepped so we can start doing the curb gutters and sidewalks in those areas as well. So that’s the next phase.”
