Today was the first day of school for the Kenai Peninsula School District and seemed to go off without a hitch at Soldotna High School.
Co-President Allie Dusek, who represents students from SoHi, said Will Mahan, who represents students from Skyview, and said they enjoyed seeing the schools coming together.
Dusek: “It’s a lot of little steps, that are going to be the most important, were just going to have to work together, get everyone working together and hopefully it all just works out.”
Mahan said they’ve already started some of those little steps like painting some stars purple and incorporating purple into student council shirts.
Mahan: “I think its pretty sweet so far, I was expecting it to be a little different but everything seems to be coming together pretty well and every seems to be getting along.”
Principal Todd Syverson said they kicked off the first day with an assembly.
Syverson: “We had both the freshman, the Soldotna prep students and our grades 10, 11 and 12 here, a lot of excitement a lot of school spirit and as we released them the business community was out here with brand new sweatshirts for all the teachers and all the staff. Again its been a lot of fun for us, kids getting to see there friends from over the summer, teachers reconnecting with their students. It’s been a great transition so far.”
Principal Syverson, Dusek, and Mahan all expressed their thanks to the members and businesses of the community for raising money for the sweatshirts that were given to students at Soldotna Prep, Skyview Middle School, and Soldotna High School.
