First Round Winners Advance In Peninsula Conference Basketball Championships

The 2020 Peninsula Conference Basketball Championships, which will determine conference champions and state qualifiers to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships, tipped-off four days of competition at Cook Inlet Academy with first-round games on Wednesday, March 4th in the CIA gym.

 

The Peninsula Conference tournament features a double-elimination format in both the girls and boys bracket with the tournament’s championship games scheduled for Friday night (March 6th) and the runner-up games, which will determine the second, state qualifier on Saturday afternoon (March 7th).

 

Peninsula Conference Girls Bracket: Opening Round

Lumen Girls 27 – Ninilchik Girls 18

#5 Lumen downs #4 Ninilchik in tournament’s first upset.

Cook Inlet Academy (6-4) – Kodiak ESSS (0-10)  Rescheduled to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Nikolaevsk girls earn the #1 seed with a 10-0 record and receive a bye into Thursday’s round.  Birchwood Academy (7-3) also receives a first-round bye with the #2 seed.

 

Peninsula Conference Boys Bracket: Opening Round

Birchwood Academy Boys 51 – Cook Inlet Academy Boys 43  

Cook Inlet battles from 36-17 deficit at halftime to draw to within a basket in the final three minutes; however, Birchwood holds-off the Eagles 51-43.

Nikolaevsk Boys 75 – Nanwalek 40

Justin Trail lead the Warriors with 26 points in a 75-40 win over Nanwalek.
