First Tourists Hitting Alaskan Shores

The first R.V.s are starting to appear on the Kenai Peninsula’s highways, heralding an early start to tourism for 2015.

Kari McKahan with the Seward Chamber said campgrounds and hotels are already filling up, much earlier than usual…

McKahan: “People are here, the RVs, the camping grounds are filling up, most of the local hotels have reported to us that they’re filling up with record numbers this season, and ahead of time.”

Tourists are following the early sunshine… and so are migratory animals…

McKahan: “Wildlife, sea life, everything’s ahead of schedule this year, we thin because of the mild winter we had. Gray whales have been here, humpbacks, orcas, feeding. The herring is in, so everybody’s coming to feed, as far as sea life goes, and the people are coming too, because the weather is mild.”

McKahan suggested visitors to Seward book ahead. Call the Chamber for recommendations.
