According to the National Weather Service, most areas across Southcentral are expected to remain just above freezing tonight into Saturday morning as the first push of cold air doesn’t move through until during the day Saturday.
For the Kenai Peninsula, these include areas around Kenai, Soldotna, Homer and Cooper Landing.
As a result, only the typically cold spots are anticipated to possibly reach freezing or even a degree or two below Friday night. This will largely depend on the amount of cloud cover. Clearer sky will lead to colder temperatures with the opposite for more cloud cover.
Saturday night into Sunday morning is when the more widespread frost/freeze is expected across most of the population centers around Southcentral.
Expect mostly upper 20s across the Susitna Valley, East Anchorage, and the western Kenai Peninsula away from immediate coastal locations.
Other areas will mostly be near freezing to a degree or two below.
Therefore, make sure to cover any outdoor sensitive plants, garden, etc. that could be damaged from the cold temperatures, especially Saturday night/Sunday morning.
