Fish And Game Warns of Aggressive Moose On The Kenai

With reports of aggressive moose across Southcentral Alaska, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game warns everyone to be aware of moose across the Kenai.

Jeff Selinger with the Department of Fish & Game said they’ve seen a few instances of aggressive moose across the peninsula…

Selinger: “You know it happens every year at this time, with the new calves out there especially the cows get real protective of those calves. Particularly for the first month or two of life, the first few week are pretty critical, for those calves to be able to survive and the cows get very aggressive as the summer progresses they tend to get a little bit more mellow, you know that cows do as the calves get bigger and are able to keep up and kind of fend for themselves a little bit better.”

Residents are warned to be aware of aggressive moose through mid July, even if they are the so called “neighborhood” moose calves and moose cows. This time of the year is a good time to give moose the needed space to raise their calves.
