The numbers of dip-netters are increasing as we head into the weekend.
Darlene Boskoffsky said she and her husband Richard of Anchorage have been dipnetting in Kenai’s personal use fishery for 12 years.
Darlene: “Richard checks the count all the time online and sees when they’re coming in heavy, we just wanted to come down today because it’s the first day. He does keep up with the counts and then we watch tv and see what they’re saying.”
She said the last few years of low king returns are concerning for them.
Phil Sawin and his family have been coming for the past five years but they don’t pay much attention to the fish counts.
Sawin: “Normally the fish are a lot bigger here in the Kenai than they are at the Kasilof or other places.”
