Fish & Game Announces Closure Of 2022 Commercial Salmon Fishery Season

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports Upper Cook Inlet Commercial Fishing Announcement No. 37 closes commercial salmon fishing with set gillnets in the Northern District, and in the Western, Kalgin Island, Kustatan, and Chinitna Bay subdistricts of Upper Cook Inlet for the 2022 season, effective at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022.

 

Commercial salmon fishing with drift gillnets will also be closed in the Central District of Upper Cook Inlet for the 2022 season, effective at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022.

 

Regulations 5AAC 21.310 Fishing Seasons; 5 AAC 21.320 Weekly Fishing Periods; and 5 AAC 21.353 Central District Drift Gillnet Fishery Management Plan all state that salmon may be taken in the areas mentioned above from a specific starting date until closed by emergency order. This emergency order closes the 2022 Upper Cook Inlet commercial salmon fishing season for those areas in compliance with these regulations.

 

Additionally, the commercial salmon fishing season for set gillnets in the Upper Subdistrict of the Central District closed by regulation (5 AAC 21.310 (b)(2)(C)(i) and (ii)) on August 15, 2022.
