Fish Named to APOC Libertarian Seat

Former U.S. Senate candidate Mark Fish has been nominated seat on the Alaska Public Offices Commission. Governor Bill Walker had initially chosen William McChord of Haines, but the House Judiciary Committee raised concerns McChord has only lived in Alaska since last May.

 

Fish was the Libertarian Party’s preferred candidate. He was a candidate for U.S. Senate during last November’s general election which was eventually won by Republican Dan Sullivan.

 

Since Governor Bill Walker ran his campaign as an independent, and the Democratic nominee Byron Mallot withdrew his bid in order to join the “unity ticket,” only two parties were left in the race: Republican Sean Parnell and Libertarian Carolyn Clift.

 

The APOC seats go to the two most popular parties in the election.

 

Zack Fields with the Alaska Democratic Party insisted supporting Walker for Governor was more important than winning APOC seats.
