A fisherman was reported to be in distress after being swept out into Resurrection Bay from the McDonald’s campground beach in Seward. Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers had responded to the report on May 29th around 9:30 a.m.

An unidentified 19-year-old male was fishing in waders and stepped into a drop-off before drifting approximately 100 yards out into Resurrection Bay. The male was reportedly not wearing a life vest or personal flotation device at the time of the incident. Witnesses stated that the male appeared to be going under the water until managing to remove his waders and swim back to shallow water where he was assisted out of the water.

The male was located approximately 1 mile out on the flats due to low tide and was assisted by Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers back to the campground.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to always wear a life jacket or personal flotation device when you are fishing or recreating on or near the water.
