Five-Run 8th Inning Propels Peninsula Oilers over Anchorage Bucs 5-2

The Peninsula Oilers pounded out a 5-2 win over the Anchorage Bucs fueled by a five-run bottom of the eighth inning Saturday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

Oilers 5 – Bucs 2

The Oilers bats recorded one hit through seven innings, then exploded at the plate in the eighth inning.

After back-to-back singles by Ryan Novis and Michael Yourg to open the frame, Evan Berkey, a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning, laced a tw0-run single into right field to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead.

Catcher Ryan Koch added two more runs on an RBI single, plating Paul Kunst and Matthew Kirk.

Grant Wood added the fifth run of the inning on a 5-3 RBI ground out scoring Tyler Duke, giving the Oilers a 5-1 lead.

The Bucs were able to add a run against Oilers reliever Christian Winston in the top of the ninth after Willy Escala walked with the bases loaded to make the score 5-2.

Bret Ricklefs was inserted into the game with two outs to face JC Correa, the go-ahead run at the plate with the bases loaded. Ricklefs got Correa to strikeout to clinch the Oilers second win of the season.

The Oilers improved to 2-1 in the Alaska Baseball League on the season.

 

Sunday Doubleheader

The Oilers double-dip against the Bucs Sunday with a doubleheader sponsored by Old Town Bingo. Free admission for fans along with the chance to play baseball bingo.

The Oilers close out their six-game home stand against the Bucs Monday at 7 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
