The Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development announced the start of a public comment period for the Food Security and Independence Task Force Report draft. The task force helps identify where and how the state of Alaska can improve and stabilize food production and wild food harvests in the state. The task force was created out of the supply chain disruptions spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent inflationary issues that followed.
This task force was established with Governor Mike Dunleavy’s Administrative Order 334 with the goal to deliver a report that addresses the many challenges facing Alaska’s food systems to the Governor. This draft report addresses directives directly from AO 334 as well as identifies areas where further research is needed.
“This process has been filled with robust discussions surrounding the challenges we face in Alaska concerning food security and production,” according to DCCED Commissioner, Julie Sande. “I am honored to participate in this task force and urge the public to contribute during the public comment period. This report will only be made stronger from the input we receive from the people that are directly impacted by food insecurity.”
The public comment period will close on Monday, October 31, 2022. After incorporating public comments, the final Food Security and Independence Task Force Report will then be published.
