The final weekend of the regular season for high school football features a Friday game at Nikiski with the Bulldogs in-line to clinch a berth to the Division III state football playoffs and a Saturday showdown in Kenai with the annual Kenai vs SoHi game, the Stars having already clinch the #1 seed from the Northern Lights Conference into the Division II playoffs.
Friday, October 4th Nikiski vs Seward 4 p.m. Nikiski High School
The Bulldogs look to win their third Peninsula Conference game and clinch the #2 playoff berth for the Peninsula Conference into the Division III state football playoffs. Nikiski’s playoff hopes soared with a 26-22 victory last week over the Homer Mariners. Nikiski’s only conference loss is to the undefeated (7-0) Houston Hawks. The Hawks own the #1 seed for the conference into the playoffs and will host a first-round contest.
The Bulldogs are lead on offense by running backs Sam Berry and Michael Mysing and quarterback Noah Litke.

Saturday, October 5th Kenai vs SoHi @ KCHS 2 p.m. Kenai Central High School
The annual cross-town rival football game to end the regular season between Kenai and Soldotna dates back to 1980 and usually invokes the ” any given day, anything can happen” when discussing each teams perceived chances to win–and many years “anything can happen, and does”.
This Saturday, the Kardinals will need “everything to happen” against the juggernaut that is SoHi football 2019.
SoHi Stars
The Soldotna Stars stand at 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Lights Conference with the #1 seed in hand for the Division II football playoffs. SoHi has amassed nearly 3,000 yards, including over 2,300 rushing yards and the Stars have notched 339 points (averaging 56 pts per game). SoHi’s full-T backfield of Wyatt Medcoff, Hunter Metcalf and Aaron Faletoi have scored 22 touchdowns and carried for 1,600 yards. Quarterback Jersey Truesdell has recorded eight passing touchdowns, eight rushing touchdowns, kicked 33 PAT and run-in two, 2-pt conversions.
Kenai Kardinals
Kenai opened the season with a victory over the Homer Mariners in week one; however, the Kardinals offense has average about 280 yards per game and 81 total points and Kenai is looking for that elusive second victory. The Kardinal running game is anchored by Zach Burnett and Tucker Vann, with quarterback Kayden Daniels at the helm. Kenai stands at 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Northern Lights Conference.
