The ever-changing landscape of high school sports in 2020 has locked-in a plan for the first weekend of September and the first weekend of inter-school competition for Central Peninsula schools Kenai, Nikiski and SoHi.
High school football will open a modified regular season with SoHi hosting Homer on Saturday, September 5th; Nikiski will host the Nikiski Class Races cross country running event on Friday, September 4th and volleyball teams begin play on Thursday, September 3rd with Kenai at Nikiski and continues on Friday with Nikiski traveling to SoHi.
Football: SoHi vs Homer at Soldotna High School
The Soldotna Stars will host Homer on Saturday with the game designated as Senior Night, with senior recognition during the pregame. The football event will be conducted under the intermediate risk category mitigation plan and protocols..
Protocol Guidelines
…Number of spectators limited to what the facility can handle with emphasis on social distancing of at least 6 feet. Total number of spectators will be determined by SoHi and plan for limiting crowd will be announced.
…Bleachers will be taped at 6-foot intervals to encourage social distancing.
…Pathway along the fence on the east side of the field will be taped at 10-foot intervals to encourage social distancing.
…Cashless gates will be set-up at the northern and southern gates.
…Artificial noisemakers will be allowed. Yelling and cheering is strongly discouraged.
…No concessions will be permitted.
Screening Protocols
Prior to attending, advisors, coaches, supervisors, and participants must sign a waiver of liability related to COVID-19.
…Screen advisors, coaches, supervisors, and participants upon arrival at the facility. Includes a temperature check, questions, and phone number/email. Information should be recorded and stored to help facilitate contact tracing of a confirmed exposure.
…Anyone with a temperature of greater than 100.3 degrees or with positive symptoms reported will not be allowed to participate, should self-isolate, and contact their primary care provider or other health-care professional.
…All spectators must wear a mask and sign the KPBSD waiver before entering the facility
…There will be a designated individual on site responsible for monitoring and following all screening, cleaning, and social distancing protocols.
…SOHI administration and AD will oversee these protocols.
Face Covering
Cloth face covering by participants should be used when not engaging in vigorous activity (i.e. when not playing in the game).
…Coaches should wear cloth face coverings, especially when physical distancing is not possible.
..All game workers must wear cloth face coverings.
…Administration collecting waiver and workers at the gates will also wear gloves.
…Spectators must wear cloth face coverings.
