With half of the regular season in the books, the high school football regular season will feature Northern Lights Conference games for the Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals and a Small School divisional game for the Nikiski Bulldogs in week five.
SoHi vs Palmer @ Palmer 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 11th KSRM 920AM
The undefeated Soldotna Stars travel to Palmer to face the Moose in an NLC contest on Friday night. The Moose, having been reclassified to the Medium School division, renew the conference rivalry shared with the Stars in the 80’s and 90’s when both played in the large school football Northern Lights Conference.
SoHi enters the game with a 4-0 record on the season, 1-0 in the NLC and a 33-game win streak on the line. The Moose stand at 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NLC, and a week one victory over Chugiak (now ranked #1 in Large School football poll).
SoHi’s offense has amassed nearly 2000 yards in four games including over 1500 rushing yards, 21 rushing touchdowns, and six passing touchdowns. The Stars rushing game features Kriatian Palaniuk, Mason Prior and a stable of running backs; while the Moose rushing game revolves around Chase Ferris (Palmer’s only loss came in a game played without Ferris).
The Stars vs Palmer game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday night and will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com.
Kenai vs Eagle River @ Eagle River 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12th KSRM 920AM
The Kardinals travel to Eagle River for a Northern Lights Conference contest against the Eagle River Wolves on Saturday, September 12th. Eagle River joining the NLC in 2015 and still looking for ite first win of the season.
The Kardinals stand at 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NLC. Kenai’s rushing attack through three games has totaled over 700 yards lead by Zack Tuttle and Andrew Welborn.
The Kards vs Wolves game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com.
Nikiski vs Houston @ Nikiski 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12th KKIS 96.5 FM
The Nikiski Bulldogs host Houston in a Small School football divisional pairing on Saturday, September 12th. Nikiski stands at 3-1 on the season and unbeaten at 3-0 against Small School opponents.
The Bulldogs feature a balanced attack lead by quarterback Cade Anderson with over 400 passing yards and seven touchdowns. The ground game features Rykker Riddall and Corin Cooper; Nikiski has rushed for over 1000 yards through four games.
The Bulldogs vs Hawks game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday and will be broadcast on KKIS 96.5 FM and www.radiokenai.com
