Football Week Two Opens With Friday Night Doubleheader

The drive for 50 for the Soldotna Stars and the season openers for both the Kenai Kardinals and the Nikiski Bulldogs highlight the second week of the high school football regular season.

 

SoHi vs Dimond     6:00 p.m.    Friday, August 18     Justin Maile Field @ Soldotna High School

The Soldotna Stars host the Dimond Lynx of Anchorage in the Stars home opener on Friday night at 6:00 p.m at Justin Maile Field; SoHi striving to extend its program’s 50-consecutive game win streak.

 

The Stars will follow-up a decisive 21-0 shut out of West Anchorage in week one, holding West to under 50 yards of offense while amassing over 300 offensive yards and forcing three turnovers.  SoHi rushed for over 250 yards including 124 yards for sophomore Aaron Faletoi.

Dimond opened the season with a 34-23 victory over Railbelt Conference Lathrop

Kenai @ North Pole     7:00 p.m.     Friday, August 18th     North Pole High School

The Kenai Kardinals, under head coach Ted Riddall, travel to Fairbanks for Kenai’s first action on the field, following a forfeit week one with the Nikiski Bulldogs.  The Kardinals will feature a rushing game lead by Rikker Riddall and a passing attack featuring Medium School All-State wide receiver Zack Tuttle.

Kenai and North Pole are perennial playoff contenders, the two teams last met in the Medium School playoffs in 2015.

The Patriots opened with a comeback, 20-19 victory over Palmer in week one action.

Nikiski vs Monroe     2:00 p.m.     Saturday, August 19th     Nikiski High School

The Bulldogs home opener features Nikiski hosting Monroe in a Division III showdown on Saturday at Nikiski High School.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs offense will feature Peninsula Conference 1st team quarterback Ian Johnson.

The Monroe Rams fell in week one to Redington High School 54-40, Redington’s first victory for their football program.
