A pair of football showdowns highlight the first weekend of October for Kenai Peninsula football with Kenai hosting Nikiski and SoHi traveling to battle Homer.

The Kenai Kardinals return to the turf at Ed Hollier Field to host the Nikiski Bulldogs on Friday, October 2nd. The varsity game time scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Kenai Kardinals, 0-2 on the season, will rely on a solid ground attack, while Nikiski, 1-1, looks to record a second-straight victory. Kenai’s Tucker Vann leads the Kards ground attack with two touchdowns; Koleman McCoughey tops the Bulldogs with four rushing touchdowns.
Neither team played last week due to game cancellations.

SoHi vs Homer @ Homer High School Saturday, October 3rd 3 p.m.
A rematch of SoHi’s first game of the season, a 42-6 victory over Homer, Saturday’s pairing in Homer features a Mariner team with only one loss and a dynamic quarterback-driven offense challenging SoHi’s high scoring offense and stifling defense.
Both SoHi and Homer have earned playoff positions: the Stars are the Division II reigning champions and will represent the Kenai Peninsula in the DII semi-finals against Eagle River; the Mariners are the #1 Peninsula seed into the Division III playoffs and receive a first-round bye.
The Stars varsity players look for quality game time having played only two games and for most of the starters only a little over four quarters of football. SoHi needs reps to prepare for the upcoming Division II playoffs. The Stars rushing game produced 775 yards in just two games, lead by Austin Escott with 312 yards on 12 carries and four rushing touchdowns.
The Homer Mariners are lead by quarterback Conner Tennison, who has 12 rushing touchdowns and seven passing touchdowns in the Mariners’ four games. Tennison managed only one rushing touchdown in a 42-6 loss to SoHi a month ago.
