Forestry Hopes to Reach Containment with Caribou Lake Fire Today

The Division of Forestry has been working to reach containment since about 2 pm yesterday after a report of a wildfire near Caribou Lake.

Fire Prevention Officer Darren Finley spoke with us and said helicopters have been assisting by dropping water and moving crews in and out when necessary.

He added that the Pioneer Peak Hot Shot crew out of Palmer Alaska has been very instrumental in the progress they have made. They are a Type 1 trained team that offer specialized man power and are trained to deal with more dangerous situations.

Finley said they have heavy equipment like dozers making their way to the burn to assist with containment.

The Division of Forestry walked the perimeter of the fire yesterday and determined it is still at about 12 acres. Zero structures were lost.
