Forestry Lifts Open Burning Suspension, Reminds Burn Permits Required

The Division of Forestry has lifted the open burning suspension for the Kenai area as of Tuesday, June 10th.

 

Darren Finley with the Department of Forestry reminded residents that a burn permit is required until August 31

Finley: “The area has received some precipitation and its decreased our fire danger and our burn suspension has been lifted. Any open burning other than campfires, cooking fires, or warming fires you will need to obtain a burn permit. You can get a burn permit online by searching for Alaska burn permit, or you can stop by our office. Please adhere to the conditions outlined on your permit, as they provide a safe burning platform.” 

 

Forestry said anyone burning debris should still use caution as high winds are predicted in the area this week.

 

The public should contact Soldotna Forestry at 260-4200 to hear the latest burn conditions as well along with tips about fire breaks, no burning in windy conditions and having water on site.
