The Division of Forestry and Mat-Su Borough Firefighters are battling a fast-growing grass fire near Meadow Lakes, north of Wasilla.
The fire has been named the Sunrise Fire and has grown to approximately 15 acres in the first couple hours.
There are currently no structures threatened by the fire which is burning predominately in black spruce.
Helicopters are dropping water buckets on it and a load of fire retardant was dropped on the blaze.
Erratic winds that are gusting up to 20 miles per hour are present in the area.
Public Information Officer Norm McDonald with the Department of Forestry says the fire was human caused and will be under investigation.
