Lack of snow cover and dry weather on the Kenai Peninsula has sparked interest in burn permits. The Division of Forestry would like to remind you to burn safely and get your permit. Division of Forestry’s Paul Pelligrini…

Pelligrini: “Through the burn permit program people get the permit and they read it and it’s got a lot of conditions on the permit and if they follow the conditions on the permit we find that we have a lot less escaped fires and escaped debris fires are the largest cause of fires on the Kenai Peninsula.”

Burn permits are valid for a year and can be applied for online or in person…

Pelligrini: “They’re free and if you’re going to burn something less than 10’x10′ in diameter and less than 4′ high, you can go online, it’s really simple you can just google forestry.alaska.gov/burn.”

You can find the Forestry website by clicking here: Alaska Division of Forestry and print a permit from the website. Permits are also available through the Forestry offices in Soldotna or Homer.
