A former Nikiski resident has been jailed after allegedly posting comments on Facebook which frightened residents in Tyonek.
According to Facebook, 26-year-old Justin Trenton moved to the west side of the Cook Inlet last October. Troopers said they received a call Monday from a Tyonek resident who said a post Trenton made on Facebook “caused people in the village and school to be concerned for their welfare.”
Megan Peters with the Troopers said no specific residents were threatened, but many were afraid. Trenton was arrested for second-degree terroristic threatening.
The 31 students at K-12 Tebughna School were placed into a “modified lockdown” yesterday, but classes remained in session.
Troopers were unable to get to the village on Monday due to weather and arrived early Tuesday. Citizens patrolled the community of 171 in the meantime.
Charges were filed in the Kenai Courthouse today (Wednesday). Trenton is being held without bail.
