The former Kenai Peninsula Pop Warner Association (KPPW) President, charged with stealing more than $40,000 from the local youth sports outfit, pleaded guilty on Monday, May 6 to theft in the second degree.
The plea agreement between the State and 33-year-old Alecia Gregory drops the charges of fraudulent use of an access device or identification document, scheme to defraud, and falsifying business records, but leaves the theft charge.
On the four original charges, Gregory was initially indicted by a Kenai grand jury on Sept. 22, 2021.
The charges against Gregory stemmed from events that occurred in 2019 and 2020, during which time she is alleged to have misappropriated funds in excess of $25,000 from Kenai Peninsula Pop Warner Football Association in her capacity as President. Over the two years, the non-profit bank account received charges tied to Gregory, including AT&T, Holiday Gas, Chevron Station, Walmart, multiple drive-through coffee stands, Taco Bell, K&A Creations, Save U More, Ravn Air, Forever Dance Alaska, Orca Theater, Costco, Enstar, Old Navy, Homer Electric Association, Apple.com, and Famous Footwear.
In a statement, KPPW said, “We are happy that the case against Mrs. Gregory has been resolved. These crimes violated the community’s inherent trust in our league, and we hope this plea agreement will serve as a step toward rebuilding that trust. As we have every year since our league’s inception, we strive each football season to provide Pop Warner youth with a positive and formative experience, and we remain committed to that objective now more than ever.”
As a part of the plea agreement, Gregory had all potential jail time suspended and will serve five years of felony probation. She also agreed to repay the non-profit $35,200.
