Forward Movement on Three Large Projects Previously Paused

Three large-scale state infrastructure projects are taking steps forward although a final blessing has not been issued.

 

Governor Bill Walker’s budget director outlined allowable work on the Knik Arm bridge, a road from Juneau and the Suitna-Watana dam.

 

For the Knik Arm project, the allowable work includes submitting a letter of interest for a federal loan.

 

For the Juneau project, it includes completing an environmental impact report.

 

That work is required to be completed without additional funding.

 

In December Governor Walker halted new, non-obligated spending on those and several other projects pending further review.

 

The Alaska Department of Transportation raised concerns that the state could have to repay federal money if the Knik Arm and Juneau projects were stopped or suspended.
