A free black and brown bear baiting clinic will be held this Thursday. To qualify for some permits, hunters must have taken a state-approved Black Bear Baiting Clinic, but biologist Larry Lewis said people attend for a variety of reasons…
Lewis: “So if anybody’s interested in attending one of those, and the thing is, you don’t have to kill a black bear over bait. If someone’s interested in establishing a bait station, through the registration permits, following all the regulations and everything, people can go out, do what I do. I like to just sit and watch bears, take pictures of bears, and maybe have an opportunity to harvest one, but you don’t have to kill a bear over a bait station.”
The clinic is free and no preregistration is required. Doors open Thursday 6pm at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on K-Beach Road.
