The Greater Fairbanks NAACP and Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Rec are offering a free showing of a movie directed by a Fairbanks native.
The movie “Till” will be shown Sunday at Pioneer Park. The film is based on the true story of 14-year-old Emmett Till, who is kidnapped and lynched while visiting relatives in Mississippi in 1955.
Director Chinonye Chukwu [[ SHIN-no-yay choo-CUE ]] was six years old when her family moved to Fairbanks.
Chukwu and the movie have been nominated for multiple awards. In 2019, she became the first black woman to win the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
