Supporters who donated to the campaign of Hollis French for Lt. Governor may be getting a refund.

French gave up his place as the Democrat’s nominee for Lt. Governor when Bill Walker and Byron Mallott joined forces.

French: “My campaign came to kind of an unusual end when the unity ticket came together, so the campaign funds that I’ve accumulated have to be disposed of and as it turns out I’m going to have some extra money to send back to my contributors.”

He is returning more than $30,000 worth of excess campaign funds to contributors, he’s also giving $5,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Alaska and to the Alaska Democratic Party.

We asked French how he feels about the unity ticket.

French: “I think we all made the right move, it looks like the unity ticket’s going to prevail, we’re going to get a new governor and that’s great news for the state of Alaska.”

French gave up his seat in the state Senate to pursue the leuitenant governor’s position. Right now he’ll take a short break but we haven’t heard the last of Hollis French.

French: “You know I don’t think I’m done, I really love public service, there’s a lot of great opportunities in Alaska but right now I’m just aiming for some vacation.”

French declined to comment on which offices he might consider.
