The National Weather Service in Anchorage is predicting that the temperature is going to drop even more than it has. The winds are predicted to increase Wednesday with winds from the north between 10-15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Wednesday’s high temperature is expected to be in the single digits with overnight lows hovering around -10. Factoring in the wind gusts Wednesday night, which are predicted to be around 25 mph, the wind chill values are predicted to be as low as -35.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Anchorage told KSRM:
“We’re looking at a pretty strong arctic low that’s dropping down from the northern part of the state and it’s bringing a really cold air mass down to the southcentral area. For the Kenai area, we’re looking at the coldest temperatures arriving by Wednesday night. Overnight lows can be expected to range from -5 to -10. Also, for the Kenai area, the western Kenai Peninsula, we’re looking at some northerly winds to accompany that. There could be some gusts as high as 30 mph, with a consistent north wind at 10-15 mph. That’s going to kind of produce some colder wind chill values as well. That’s kind of the story here. It’s really just the temperatures that are falling, it’s a very cold air mass and a lot of southcentral will be experiencing that.”
Winds of 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph combined with below zero temperatures will cause very low wind chills Wednesday morning, Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The very cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

“Dressing really warmly, making sure you don’t have any skin exposed, hat, gloves, balaclava, all of those. Winter gear is great to have. Bundle up if you do have to be outside.”
