The high school baseball schedule is built a year in advance and traditionally is based on a late spring, cold temps and fields that are finally usable in May. Thus, Kenai and SoHi baseball programs enter May with schedules featuring four games in a week and eight games in 15 days. That brutal scheduling opened Tuesday with Kenai hosting Homer in baseball action.
Kenai 8 – Homer 10
The Kardinal baseball team opened strong with a solo home run for Paul Steffensen and four early runs, only to allow Homer to battle back for a 10-8 Mariner victory in Southcentral Conference baseball action. Kardinal starter Gavin Petterson lasted 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on only three hits (and six walks). Homer built a 10-5 advantage and the Kards added three late runs in the sixth inning.
The Kardinals host the Soldotna Stars on Wednesday at the Kenai baseball fields. Game time scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Both Kenai and SoHi travel to the Valley for baseball on Friday and Saturday against Colony and Wasilla.
