Full Legislature Won’t Be in Juneau Tuesday

The full State Legislature will not travel to Juneau Tuesday after a two-week recess. Instead, Nikiski’s House Speaker Mike Chenault said a small delegation will reconvene in a technical session.

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “Right now we don’t have a bill before the body other than the Finance committees. Until they move a bill out of Finance, there’s really no point calling everyone together to have a 15-minute session.”

Chenault said the future is still unclear, but it’s likely another three-day recess will be called on Tuesday.

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “Don’t yet, it’s going to depend on our Finance Committee looking at the budget bill the Governor proposed and seeing if they can find any agreement there to move anything forward. The Finance Committee will meet, I believe, on Monday to take up the Medicaid expansion issue and see if there’s something they can move forward out of Finance on that one.”

Chenault said lawmakers continue to investigate Medicaid, one of the other topics the Governor required as part of this special session. He said the House has already passed Erin’s Law, the third item on the agenda, leaving that bill in the Senate’s hands.
