Funny River Road Open After Road Repairs

Funny River Road Mile 8 is open ONE lane only. Motorists slow yer roll. Proceed with caution onto the gravel surface, adhere to road signs and yield to crews/equipment. Work will continue Monday. Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities rockstars gett’n there! Since Friday night, crews have been repairing the now famed-name “Sink Hole de Mayo” on Funny River Road that was due to a portion of the road being washed out near mile 8. Office of Emergency Management continues to support AKDOTPF messaging as they work to open the road. OEM will call Funny River landlines and registered cellphones when the road is open. Work continues on the culvert at mile 8 Funny River Road through the night. Crews are working 24/7 to get the job done as quickly and as safely as possible. The Office of Emergency Management will call landlines and registered cellphones in Funny River when the road is open. The road opening will also be posted here and at https://511.alaska.gov.

CES at Funny River Stn#5 includes four man crew during the road closure. The crew includes Paramedic Ratky, Engineer Kruse, Paramedic Michael, and Captain Killian this weekend.
The medical transport plan includes coordinated airlift. You may have seen a helicopter today confirming locations if needed. Thanks gentlemen for your service to Funny River.

Funny River Road, at Ski Hill Road was closed on Friday night May 5th, due to road sloughing.

 

According to KPB Alerts, Alaska Department of Transportation closed Funny River Road to make road repairs.

 

The road is expected to be closed for up to two days. Residents should prepare to stay home and avoid the area. The road will not be passable.

 

Dispatch and first responders are aware of this closure and have contingency plans in place to respond to medical emergencies.

 

The Kenai Peninsula Borough, Office of Emergency Management call center will be open until 10PM, May 5th.  Call 907-262-4636 for non-emergency calls.
