Fire crews put out a fire in a vacant lot off Funny River Road on Sunday. A brush pile fire was reported by Alaska State Troopers. Central Emergency Services and Alaska Division of Forestry responded. Crews arrived to the scene of a wildland fire about one quarter acre in size. It was a rank 2 burning in the grass and mixed hardwoods. Flames were up to two feet in height and winds were blowing east two to four miles per hour. The fire was suppressed with bucket work and hoselays.
The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center reports that the fire was contained at 3:32 p.m. and controlled at 4:00 p.m. The fire was placed into monitor status and the units were released.

Alaska State Troopers called Central Emergency Services and Alaska Division of Forestry around 7:41 p.m. that evening and said that the northeast corner was smoking. Crews went to check the fire and found one hot spot, which was put out and the fire was left in monitor status.
The Alaska Fire Service and the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center report that it is a human caused fire, specifically from debris burning.
