After arriving at the Minnesota Zoo on July 15, the gray wolf pups rescued from the Funny River fire are settling in.
The five gray wolf pups – X-ray, Stebbins, Hooper, Huslia, and Gannet, named by the firefighters that discovered their den, are still in quarantine but growing quickly.
They have grown from about 14-15 pounds each to 31-35 pounds.
At this time the pups are being treated for hookworm and their quarantine time is still undetermined.
A few of the pups had minor issues due to being found in a den with a porcupine: X-ray had a porcupine quill stuck in his eye but vets think it will heal, Stebbins had an abscess due to a quill on his nose and looks to be healing properly, and one of the females, Huslia, had chipped an adolescent canine but that will heal as her adult teeth come in.
The Minnesota Zoo has said they are healthy overall and the Zoo is excited to have them join their wolf pack.
