Furie Operating Alaska has installed a new offshore platform in the Kitchen Lights Unit northwest of Nikiski and expects to be producing natural gas by mid-November.
Furie Senior Vice President Bruce Webb said the mini-monopod platform arrived in late April after being wintered in Seattle.
Webb: “On August 4 we set the last main component, the southside deck and the heli-deck, and now the heavy lift vessel, the Svenja, has left. It was in Homer recently for a couple days before leaving but it should be leaving today.”
The onshore facility in Nikiski and 16.5 miles of undersea pipeline is also completed and the platform has been connected.
Webb: “What we still need to connect is the actual well, this was the KLU No. 3 well. It’s the first well inside the main caisson and we just need to connect it to the platform, it’s called tying back the well.”
Furie Operating Alaska originally planned to use a Sparta 151 jack-up rig to cantilever over the platform during production but Webb said that changed.
Webb: “The platform is designed to have a jack-up rig cantilever over it. Since then we’ve determined that we don’t need the Spartan to tie back the well so we’re using a Moncla rig that’s currently leased to Hillcorp that should be available about the first of October.”
Furie’s aims to be producing natural gas by November 15.
