GCI Customers No Closer To Favorite TV Programs Returning

GCI issued a press release on Friday noting that negotiations to carry programming for ABC, FOX, and the CW are falling short of expectations and have not advanced the negotiations “in a meaningful way.”

The company’s Chief Communications Officer, Heather Handyside: “We were hoping to receive a meaningful counteroffer from Coastal Television and Vision Alaska so that we could make real progress in negotiations. Unfortunately, yesterday’s proposal brings us no closer to resolution. We know our customers are frustrated, and we are, too. That’s why we started negotiations in July last year in the hopes of avoiding the very situation we find ourselves in now.”

Friday’s press release from GCI noted that initial conversations stalled when Coastal Television and Vision Alaska proposed an almost “40% rate increase to GCI’s current programming contract,” saying that the current counter offer still hovers near that amount.

They ask customers to visit their webpage to learn how to access their favorite programs, including utilizing over-the-air services or online services from other providers.
