GCI Reports $15M Boost to 1st Qtr Earnings

GCI acquired Alaska Communications’ wireless customers last February, and a healthy $15 million boost to first quarter earnings.

 

GCI’s David Morris said ACS and GCI had been partners in an Alaska-wide network for some time before the acquisition…

Morris: “When you’ve got this partnership arrangement, there’s always negotiations going on between the two companies about where to built the network, how to build it, what technologies to use, and there was an inordinate about of tracking going on to make sure the two companies were treated fairly and they were paid what they were due. This transaction was really largely, at least for GCI’s sake, acknowledging the fact that induced a certain level of inefficiencies in being able to respond to customer requirements.”

 

The transition for ACS customers occurred April 12th.

 

GCI’s consolidated revenues for the first quarter were $231 million, an increase of 7% over the same quarter last year.
