GCI Welcoming Customers After Transition

GCI is hosting customer appreciation days statewide to welcome the tens of thousands of Alaska Communications Wireless customers after the carrier transition over the April 11 weekend.

GCI’s David Morris said since the transition they are looking forward to providing more coverage by constructing more cell towers and increasing LTE coverage.

Morris: “LTE is a different technology than what the ACS customers have been using in the past, the CDMA, so it’s a lot more data intensive, which means it can carry a lot more data and transmit a lot more data. For those sites we need to make sure that they’re connected with some sort of fiber optic connection to carry all the traffic. So we’re continuing to deploy LTE, not just in the Kenai Peninsula but also Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau to make the coverage area bigger.”

This transition followed the sale of ACS’ wireless customers to GCI which was finalized in February.

The Open House is until 6 pm at GCI’s Soldotna location where attendees can get their questions answered, enter to win prizes, and find special open house only offers.
