A 5-4 walk-off win for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the third extra-inning game this season against the Peninsula Oilers capped off a wild night at Mulcahy Stadium on Thursday. The Oilers (12-21) head into the 2019 Alaska Baseball League Scout Showcase weekend fourth in the ABL standings while the Pilots (16-15) sit third.
Pilots 5- Oilers 4 (10 innings)
Both teams led off the game with runs in the first inning of play. The Oilers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Drew Thorpe RBI single. The Pilots tied the game after a fielding error by Oilers third baseman Bobby Goodloe allowed Daylen Calicdan to score from second base.
The Oilers put up runs in back-to-back innings in the second and third innings.
In the second, a two-base throwing error by Pilots shortstop Matt Ottino on a Goodloe ground ball allowed Jonathan Villa to score, giving the Oilers a 2-1 lead.
In the third, Adam Dapkewicz drove in his first run of the season with a sacrifice fly that plated Connor McCord, who reached base on an error to lead off the inning.
Another Oilers run in the top of the seventh on a Travis Bohall RBI ground-out gave the Oilers a 4-1 lead.
Then, the Pilots erupted for three runs in the bottom of the frame against Oilers reliever Kyle Muller to tie the game 4-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Pilots loaded the bases against reliever Heath Olive, but the right-hander struck out the last two batters faced to send the game into extra innings.
In the tenth, the Pilots with runners on second and third base against Oilers reliever Giancarlo Servin scored the game-winning run on an infield single by Zach Sehgal on a close play at first base, securing the Pilots win 5-4.
Oilers open Scouts Showcase Set on Friday
The Oilers play the first of their 2019 ABL Scouts Showcase games on Friday against the Mat-Su Miners at 1 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium. On Saturday, the Oilers pair against the Anchorage Bucs in the final Showcase game schedued for 7 p.m.
The Scouts Showcase games are non-league games that do not count towards a teams record.
The weekend concludes with the 2019 ABL Home Run Derby and ABL All-Star Game on Sunday.
